Closing the Homework Gap: A Digital Leadership Approach to Ensuring Internet Access for All Students “Imagine being asked to complete your homework—but your classroom disappears the minute you leave school.” This is the daily reality for far too many students. At my school, homework is assigned almost exclusively through student Chromebooks. But without internet access at home, some students are locked out of learning the moment the school bell rings for students to head home at the end of each school day. As educators, we cannot accept this divide. Ensuring that all students have reliable internet access outside of school is not just a technology issue—it’s an issue of equity, opportunity, and academic justice.   Me in my classroom on the first day of school - August 2024 My Introduction: Hi there! My name is Dana Setchell, and I live just outside of Wichita, Kansas. I have been a special education teacher for 11 years and truly love what I do. Recently, I earned my Master’s in Special Education Administration, and I’m now pursuing a second Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on Educational Technology. My interest in EdTech comes from my love of technology and online learning. One of the main reasons I decided to further my education was to expand my career opportunities—whether in educational technology, online teaching, or roles beyond special education. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our almost 13-year-old son. I’ve also been a group exercise cycle instructor for 16 years, and in my free time, I love trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
